Bringing People Together Through Music: Looking Back at Brunel Care, 2018
Some moments stay with you, and this session at Brunel Care day centre in 2018 is one I’ll always treasure.
Watching this video takes me back to an incredible day and reminds me why I love what I do. The joy of sharing music, enjoying each other’s company and being part of something together is at the heart of Sweet Silent Disco.
I feel truly privileged to bring these experiences into care homes and day centres. Music can give us a way to connect when finding the right words isn’t easy. A familiar song can open up a conversation, bring back a memory or simply make someone want to sing along.
For me, there is something very special about seeing people enjoy themselves in their own way. That might mean dancing, singing, moving gently in a chair or quietly listening to a favourite tune. Everyone deserves the opportunity to take part in a way that feels right for them.
And the joy goes both ways. These sessions bring so much happiness to the people attending, but they give me an enormous amount too. Being welcomed into people’s lives, sharing those moments and seeing what music means to them is something I never take for granted. I often leave a session feeling just as uplifted as the people I’ve come to entertain.
Looking back at this video, I feel grateful for the opportunities that have followed. Since 2018, I’ve been able to bring Sweet Silent Disco to many more people, sharing that same sense of fun and connection in care homes and communities.
Thank you to everyone at Brunel Care who was part of this special day, and to everyone who has welcomed us since.
This video is a lovely reminder of what continues to inspire me: bringing people together through music.
