We were absolutely delighted that Sweet Silent Disco received Highly Commended for Health & Wellbeing Business of the Year at the 2026 SoGlos Gloucestershire Lifestyle & Community Awards.

It was a proud moment for our small business. But one of the things I value most about attending awards is the opportunity to meet great people from fantastic organisations—people I might otherwise never have the chance to speak to.

Bringing Gloucestershire’s businesses and communities together

When you’re busy running a business, much of your time is spent delivering sessions, answering enquiries and organising the next booking. Opportunities to step outside that routine and meet people doing something different can be limited.

Awards evenings create space for those conversations. They bring together business owners, charities, community organisations and people whose work makes a difference across the county.

You get to hear their stories, learn what matters to them and discover the effort behind their achievements. There is so much good work happening locally, and it’s inspiring to meet the people making it happen.

A conversation can open a door

For me, these occasions are a chance to explain why I started Sweet Silent Disco and hear about other people’s experiences.

A simple introduction can uncover shared interests, a useful contact or an idea worth exploring. You might meet someone whose organisation could benefit from your work, or someone you can help through a connection of your own.

Not every conversation needs to lead to a booking or a partnership. Sometimes, meeting someone who understands the challenges of running a small business, or hearing a fresh perspective, is valuable in itself.

Recognising the people behind the work

It is easy to see an organisation’s name without knowing the people behind it. Meeting face to face gives you a much better understanding of their passion, commitment and purpose.

That was a lovely part of the SoGlos Awards: being in a room with people who care deeply about what they do, celebrating their successes and feeling part of Gloucestershire’s wider business and community network.

Receiving Highly Commended made the evening particularly special for Sweet Silent Disco. The opportunity to make new connections gave us even more to take away from it.

Thank you to SoGlos for bringing everyone together, and to the people who took the time to chat and share their stories. Congratulations to all the winners, highly commended organisations and finalists—we were proud to celebrate alongside you.
